VOLUNTEER PROCESS EXPLAINED

School Volunteer Program Update:

Effective September 26, 2023, volunteers are no longer required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or to upload a copy of their COVID-19 vaccination card to LAUSD's Daily Pass. Applicants whose application was previously denied may contact Rosewood (reach out to our Parent Center rep and/or main office) to reactivate their application.

PLEASE NOTE: IN ORDER TO VOLUNTEER ON CAMPUS (IN THE CLASSROOM, ON FIELD TRIPS OR ANYWHERE AT SCHOOL DURING THE SCHOOL DAY), ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST BE VERIFIED THROUGH LAUSD.

COMPLETE THE VOLUNTEER PROCESS IN 4 SIMPLE STEPS:

STEP 1: Register with Friends of Rosewood. Once your info is in the system, please fill out the Volunteer Interests form to choose a role that interests you.

STEP 2: Sign Up as a Volunteer through LAUSD. Complete the online volunteer application and Volunteer Commitment Form here. ALL FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS must fill out a NEW FORM every school year. This means, even if you were cleared as a volunteer the last school year and attended field trips, you still must submit a NEW FORM for the current school year before you will be approved to be a campus or field trip volunteer. If you need access to a computer or help filling out the online form, please come in to Rosewood's Parent Center and the Community Rep will assist you in getting started. Complete the application online and bring a printed copy to the office or Parent Center to start the process.

STEP 3: GET A TB TEST. The district requires all volunteers to undergo the Tuberculosis skin test AND present their clearance/negative results to the school prior to volunteering. If you need assistance finding a location near school that administers the test, you can make an appointment at CVS' MinuteClinic on Santa Monica Blvd. or ask the Parent Center rep for other nearby locations. Many locations will accept insurance and the test will either be free or a small fee (do not overpay - contact us if you need help). Bring your negative test results to the school who will make a copy. If your test is positive, the next steps will be to take a chest X-ray. If you have previously volunteered within LAUSD, a new TB test is not required if your negative results were submitted within the past 4 years.

More info on LAUSD's volunteer program approval can be found here: https://www.lausd.org/volunteer

STEP 4: Wait for futher instructions/school approval. LAUSD will typically contact families when they have been approved, or to make arrangements on where to go if fingerprints will be needed (this is required for all new volunteers at Rosewood; if you have previously been fingerprinted as a LAUSD volunteer, you will be able to skip this step for future school years). Once you have done the fingerprinting and submitted your volunteer application online AND turned in the commitment form to the school, just sit back and await further communication that you have been approved as a volunteer.  typically, an email is sent to you directly alerting you as to when you have been fully cleared as a volunteer. At thaty point, you may begin helping out at school!

Note: All volunteer applications will be reviewed by the school site and again by LAUSD's Office of Student, Family and Community Engagement, which includes checking to see if an individual has passed Megan's Law clearance, as part of the approval process. If you have any questions on any of these steps, please contact Rosewood's main office.
